Press Release Stockholm January 2021

Popswap want to inspire young people to change their fashion habits – creates a serie of lectures with fashion and environmental experts.

An entire generation of consumers needs to change their habits – since our clothes are one of the biggest challenges of our time. Fashion Goals Academy is now being launched by Popswap in collaboration with the Swedish Fashion Council.

The lecturers are fashion and environmental experts, influencers and profiles in the field. Some of the names are Helena Waker, CEO of Trade Partners and Stockholm Fashion District, Lisa Pettersson, Fashion Director at Damernas Värld, Anna Winck, Fashion Influencer, Ahmed Al-Qassam, founder of Miljöpodden (the environmental podcast) and Philip Warkander, Doctor in Fashion studies.

“During my work with circular fashion, I quickly noticed young people's ignorance of the textile and fashion industry's impact on the environment. Fashion Goals Academy is a series of digital lectures, free of charge, with digital tools from fashion and environmental experts, influencers and profiles in the field. By launching Fashion Goals Academy, Popswap and the Swedish Fashion Council want to spread inspiration aimed at high school students ”
– Lin Kowalska, founder of Popswap

The Fashion Goals Academy, which is linked to 6, 12 and 13 of the UN's 17 global goals for sustainable development, will be used as a basis for teaching high school students across the country. High schools from Malmö, Stockholm, Uppsala, Örebro and Gothenburg have already signed up.

Lin Kowalska, founder of Popswap, launched the app in August 2020 and already has more than 15,000 active users. Popswap is part of the Swedish Fashion Council's incubator program and in December Popswap won the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship.

Popswap is the app that makes it easy and fun for people to update their wardrobes by changing clothes with each other instead of shopping for new clothes. With Popswap, you can continue to live out your fashion interest, without a bad climate conscience and without spending a single dime.

“With this initiative, we want to inspire high school students to learn a new approach to the contents of the closet and give them the opportunity to be part of the fashion industry of the future ”.
– Jennie Rosén, CEO of Swedish Fashion Council
“I think the Fashion Goals Academy seems very interesting because the students get to learn about sustainability (sustainable development, sustainable consumption, sustainable society) in the clothing industry, about entrepreneurship and how to work in the fashion world. By taking part in the lectures, which include researchers, entrepreneurs, influencers, CEOs, stylists, Doctor in fashion studies, designers and opinion leaders at Friluftsfrämjandet, students should get a very meaningful education in fashion 2021. I will let both my high school students on NTI-gymnasiet and my high school students at Kunskapsskolan Norra take part in this interesting project and feel that it is really very exciting and creatively exciting for the future! ”
– Eva Reichberg, high school teacher

Users sweep like on a dating app to like garments, and are simultaneously inspired by each other's wardrobes and photos. When two users like each other's garments their wardrobes match and the change can take place immediately.

Popswap just won the Stockholm Innovation Scholarship. Popswap was also recently ranked by startup site Sifted as one of the 14 fashion startups in the EU that will change the fashion industry.
